“The story of Rick will go on".
Andrew Lincoln will make a sensational return to the world of The Walking Dead in three new movies.
The 45-year-old actor made his apparent exit as Rick Grimes last night, amid speculation that his character would meet a gruesome end at the hands of the zombie drama’s fearsome walkers.
But shortly after last night’s episode revealed that Grimes wasn’t dead, it was confirmed that Lincoln will be reprising the character for three separate movies.
“There is more story to tell and we’ll be telling it”, The Walking Dead’s content chief Scott M.Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter.
“The story of Rick will go on in films. Right now, we’re working on three but there’s flexibility in that.
“Over the next several years, we’re going to be doing some specials, new series are quite a possibility, high-quality digital content and then some content that defies description at the moment.
“We’re going to git into the past and see old characters. We’re going to introduce new characters and new situations.”
Lincoln’s apparent exit as Grimes was confirmed earlier this year, with the actor claiming that he quit the role to spend more time with his family.
Last week, Gimple had heightened rumours that Grimes would be killed – describing his departure as “deadly”.
