BBC axes Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer’s sitcom ‘House Of Fools’

Surreal sitcom will not be returning to BBC Two for a third series

Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer’s BBC Two sitcom House Of Fools has been cancelled after two series.

The first series of the surreal comedy aired on BBC Two in early 2014, followed by a Christmas special that December and a second series earlier this year.

However, the BBC has announced today that it will not be ordering a third series. “BBC2 and BBC Comedy would like to thank Vic, Bob, [producer] Lisa Clark and everyone else involved in making House Of Fools, but after two fantastically inventive series the show won’t be returning,” a spokesperson told the Radio Times.

Mortimer has already responded to the show’s cancellation with a typically dry tweet.

Comedy stars including Rufus Hound and Reece Shearsmith have spoken out against the cancellation, with Hound tweeting “Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! House if Fools cancelled?! Fuck it.” and Shearsmith branding the decision “incorrect”.

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter are already appealing to Netflix and other streaming services to revive the series.
