‘Boardwalk Empire’ actor Charlie Cox to play Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’

Main role in Marvel series confirmed

British actor Charlie Cox has will play the lead role in Netflix’s forthcoming Marvel series, Daredevil.

Variety reports that Cox has been cast in the lead role and will appear as Matt Murdock in 13 episodes as the character, last seen played by Ben Affleck in the 2003 movie.

Cox will be known to viewers as Owen Sleater in HBO/ Sky Atlantic’s Boardwalk Empire. He has also appeared in Stardust alongside Claire Danes plus Casanova and The Merchant of Venice.

Daredevil is one of four Marvel series set for Netflix with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage also set to appear on the subscription based streaming service. All four will subsequently appear together in another mini-series, The Defenders.

Daredevil is the first Marvel series to feature on Netflix but is just the latest as the comic book giants move increasingly into the world of television. The first season of Channel 4’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD recently ended while ABC, who also showed that show in the US, have ordered Captain America spinoff Agent Carter.
