Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has revealed that his biggest regret about the show isn’t any of the characters he killed off, but how “perfect” Jesse Pinkman’s teeth were.
The cult show ran for five seasons from 2008 to 2013 and recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Aaron Paul played high school drop-out turned meth dealer Pinkman in the show, alongside Bryan Cranston, who portrayed his business partner and former chemistry teacher Walter White.
Gilligan was recently asked whether he had any regrets about the show, with Digital Spy reporting that he replied: “I’m really sorry Jesse’s teeth were so perfect, [that] Aaron Paul’s teeth are so perfect, rather.”
“Jesse Pinkman, the character, would get the living hell beaten out of him every week. And then he smoked a lot of meth, which is rough on your teeth!”
“Little details like that,” Gilligan continued. “If I stopped to think about it, I would change them. I would say to myself, ‘I wish we’d gotten that right’.”
“But in terms of broad strokes of the story, in terms of, ‘Should this character have been killed off?’ or ‘Should that character have lived?’ or whatever… nothing like that keeps me awake at night, thank goodness.”
In 2016, Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte has told NME he’d be interested in resuming his role as Walter White Jr if the show was ever to return.
Mitte said: “If the scripts were right and the money was right, why not? What’s the worst that could happen?”
Mitte admitted he was concerned at spoiling the impact of the series’ ending. He said: “We were lucky that we got to have a proper ending, and maybe we should keep it that way. Bringing Walt Jr back is an idea that’s beyond my control, but if they wanted to bring it back, why not? I don’t mind either way, as I’m working on so much right now, and that plays more on my mind.”
But Mitte did give his views on what his character would be up to now. He said: “I think Walt Jr would be in a very bad place right now. With all that happened to his father, he’d be having a hard time. I think it would be a hard world for his whole family.”
