‘Broad City’ will soon be no longer

Stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson will continue to work with Comedy Central on other projects

Broad City has been confirmed to be coming to an end.

The acclaimed Comedy Central show from stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson began life as a web series before being developed for TV. Parks And Rec star Amy Poehler is an executive producer on the show, while guest stars have included RuPaul, Steve Buscemi, Alia Shawkat, and Shania Twain.

Now, it has been announced that the show’s fifth season will be its last. In a joint statement, Glazer and Jacobson said: “Broad City has been our baby and first love for almost 10 years, since we started as a web series. It’s been a phenomenal experience, and we’ve put ourselves into it completely. Broad City‘s always had a spontaneous pace and feeling, and ending after season five honours that spirit.

“We are very excited to bring new voices and points of view to Comedy Central and continue our collaboration together in new ways.” The fifth and final season will air in early 2019.

The pair have signed a new deal with Comedy Central’s parent company Viacom, and already have three new projects in development. None are set to star or be written by the duo, but CC president Kent Alterman told The Hollywood Reporter he is “taking it as it comes”.

Glazer and Jacobson have both become in-demand stars, with the former appearing alongside Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon in Rough Night, and the latter taking a lead role opposite Dave Franco in Netflix’s new drama 6 Balloons.

Last year, a range of Broad City sex toys was launched in collaboration with erotic toy website Lovehoney. The line included Yas Kween vibrators, Pegasus pegging kits, Respect Your Dick love rings, and more.
