Watch Bruce Springsteen, Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres and more do the #MannequinChallenge at the White House

Stars are among the latest to take part in the viral trend

Ellen DeGeneres has shared a video of herself and fellow stars including Tom Hanks, Robert DeNiro and Bruce Springsteen doing the #MannequinChallenge at the White House.

The stars were among this year’s recipients of the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, along with Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, Robert Redford and others. President Obama has described the accolade as “a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the opportunity to change this country for the better”.

The #MannequinChallenge is the latest viral sensation, following the Ice Bucket Challenge and the Harlem Shake. In it, people film themselves holding poses and staying completely motionless – like mannequins. There’s usually music playing in the background and a lot of the videos so far have been soundtracked by hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd’s ‘Black Beatles’. Rae Sremmurd recently spoke to NME about soundtracking the phenomenon.

During the event at the White House, DeGeneres and her fellow stars staged their own #MannequinChallenge. Watch footage of that in the clip below.

You can also watch footage from the full ceremony, as well as Springsteen being awarded his medal, below. “I am the President. He is the boss,” Obama is reported to have said.
