Busted’s Matt Willis joins cast of revived ’90s sitcom ‘Birds Of A Feather’

Former boyband star will play Tracey's son Garth in the new series

Former Busted singer Matt Willis has joined the cast of Birds Of A Feather.

The classic BBC sitcom has recently been revived by ITV and a new series is being filmed now to air next spring (2014). Original stars Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson will be back as Essex sisters Sharon and Tracey, accompanied once again by Lesley Joseph as neighbour Dorien, who is known for her enthusiastic rendition of Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’.

Willis, who racked up eight Top Three hits with Busted during the early noughties, will appear as Tracey’s son Garth – a role originally played by actor Simon Nash. “I used to watch the show growing up so this is just a dream job. I can’t believe I’ll be working with Sharon, Tracey and Dorien,” Willis said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, Garth’s younger brother Travis will be played by Charlie Quirke, son of Pauline, who has recently been appearing in the successful Birds Of A Feather live show that sparked the TV revival. “For me, it’s great to get this opportunity after playing Travis on the stage tour for the last two years, and it’s great working with the two girls again and Mum,” he said.

Original writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran are penning the scripts for the new series of Birds Of A Feather, which will feature the first new episodes of the beloved sitcom since 1998. Meanwhile, Willis’s wife Emma has recently signed up to replace Holly Willoughby on the next series of BBC singing contest The Voice.
