Channel 5 to show five hours of ‘Friends’ to celebrate show’s 21st birthday

The episodes will air in a five-hour block on Sunday, September 13

Channel 5 will show 10 episodes of Friends later this month to celebrate the classic sitcom’s 21st birthday.

The episodes, whose titles have yet to be announced, will air in a five-hour block on Sunday, September 13 from 12pm to 5pm.

In the UK, Friends re-runs usually air on Comedy Central, whose parent company Viacom also owns Channel 5. During its original run, Friends aired in the UK on Channel 4 and Sky1, before the ever-popular re-runs found a home on E4 for several years.

Comedy Central is celebrating the show’s 21st birthday by hosting a #FriendsFest event in east London later this month. From September 16 to September 20, The Boiler House on Brick Lane is being transformed into a temporary Friends immersive experience featuring a full-scale set of Monica’s apartment, a replica of the fountain from the show’s iconic opening sequence and an exhibition of original props and memorabilia.

Fans will also have the opportunity to watch classic episodes on a “lazy boy” similar to the one favoured by Joey on the long-running show. Further information about Comedy Central’s #FriendsFest is available here.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift recently brought Friends star Lisa Kudrow onstage to sing ‘Smelly Cat’, her character Phoebe’s most famous song from the show – watch their memorable duet here.
