Charlie Brooker says previous ‘Black Mirror’ episodes could be revisited in future sequels

Is 'San Junipero 2' coming?

Black Mirror could be set to revisit old episodes, with Charlie Brooker saying that future sequels are possible.

Production on the dystopian TV drama’s fifth season began earlier this year. It is said that the next instalment could land on Netflix in December.

Ahead of the new season, a new book titled Inside Black Mirror will be released later this week (November 1). The biography of the show details ideas surrounding potential follow-up episodes. The title ‘Return to White Bear’ is featured, which would be a sequel to season two’s ‘White Bear’.

Speaking to Digital Spy about how the plot would progress, Brooker said that the episode’s lead character Victoria Skillane could become aware of her infinite punishment and memory erasing.

“That was something we discussed at the time, as a potential expansion of the story,” he explained. “What if she becomes aware that this is going on, and starts rebelling against it?”

Brooker also said that he’d be open to returning to the universe of fan-favourite ‘San Junipero’, but would focus on new characters “because we’re very happy with where [Yorkie (Mackenzie Davis) and Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw)] ended up”.

“But that’s not to say that we couldn’t revisit that world,” he added, “if there was a compelling reason to do so.”

Meanwhile, Brooker has confirmed that the planned Black Mirror spin-off novels have been postponed indefinitely. “[The novels] ended up demanding slightly more involvement than myself and Annabel had time for – so we sort of messed up a bit there!” he said.
