Chris Evans apologises after being photographed urinating at side of motorway

Departed 'Top Gear' presenter was also pictured appearing to swig from a bottle of brandy

Newly departed Top Gear presenter Chris Evans has apologised after photos showed the star urinating at the side of a busy motorway during the daytime while also appearing to swig from a bottle of brandy.

Photos published by The Sun on Friday (July 22) show Evans urinating at the side of the M4 motorway with a friend before taking a drink from a bottle of Remy Martin cognac.

A source told the paper that Evans “looked very high spirits” and that the motorway was “pretty busy with loads of cars going past”.

Evans has since issued a statement to The Mirror, saying: “Myself and several colleagues and friends had finished lunch in London and were travelling back to Berkshire in a private hire people carrier.”

“For one reason or another, a journey that usually takes forty five minutes to an hour took almost twice that. My bladder not being as robust as it once was could no longer take the strain and I had to go.”

“I apologise profusely if have caused anyone any offence and take full responsibility for the matter.”

Earlier this month (July 4), Evans announced on Twitter that he has resigned from Top Gear, admitting that his “best shot” at the show wasn’t good enough.

Overnight viewing figures revealed Top Gear had attracted a record low of 1.9 million viewers to BBC2 for the final episode the night prior (July 3). It was up against the France v Iceland Euro 2016 game on ITV and Antiques Roadshow on BBC1.

In his post on Twitter, Evans said, “Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.”
