‘Community’ cancelled by NBC after five seasons

US sitcom will not return, US broadcaster confirmed

Community has been cancelled, NBC have confirmed.

The show will not return with fans who campaigned for “six seasons and a movie” after successfully bringing the show back from the threat of cancellation in 2012, having to make do with just five instead. Overall, 97 episodes of Community aired since its creation in 2009.

Created by Dan Harmon, the cult US comedy revolved around a motley crew of adult students at a community college in the fictional town of Greendale, Colorado. The show’s UK home is on the Sony Entertainment Television channel.

Tweeting about the cancellation, creator Harmon wrote: “Twitter isn’t big enough to hold my condolences and more importantly my gratitude to the best fans, cast and crew in TV history. Excelsior.” Stars of the show, including Joel McHale and Alison Brie also passed comment on the end of the US sitcom.

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, who has played Troy Barnes in the show, s reduced his role on the show prior to season five and appeared in just five of the new episodes.

The show also lost Chevy Chase, who quit in November 2012 after squabbling with the show’s creator on set and in press interviews. Harmon later branded the actor a “befuddled old man”.
