Axed sitcom to return online next year but Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino yet to re-sign
An epic trailer has been released online teasing the sixth season of Community. The axed sitcom was picked up earlier this year by Yahoo and will run on its streaming service in 2015.
Riffing on Back to the Future, and taking a dig at the network (NBC) that dropped the show, Yahoo’s epic trailer looks back at the first five seasons and ends with the cheeky line: “Ratings? Where we’re going we don’t need ratings!”
Using a scene from the show Troy Barnes (played by Donald Glover, AKA rapper Childish Gambino) jokes: “You tried to destroy us… But you only made us more awesome!”
The multi-talented actor quit the show in January but speaking to TV Line during Comic-Con the show’s creator Dan Harmon said: “I told Yahoo to do everything they could do to get him back for as much as we can get him.”
Continued Harmon, “I am trading calls with Donald. Left him a voicemail saying, ‘That’s what I wanna talk to you about.’ The first thing I want is to get Donald Glover back. I would do anything to make that happen.”
Community will be available to view via Yahoo’s streaming service. Unlike rival Netflix have done with Arrested Development, Yahoo will not be making the entire series available at once. Episodes will be uploaded on a weekly basis from launch in 2015. With season six plans underway, it’s step closer to the show’s original mantra, “Six seasons and a movie.”
