Danny Dyer will deliver Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message this year and use the opportunity to slam British politics.
The film actor and current EastEnders cast member’s speech is scheduled to air at 3pm on Christmas Day. It will clash with the Queen’s Christmas Message.
Channel 4’s alternative festive message has run for 25 years. It’s hosted by a different celebrity or newsworthy figure each year.
As The Guardian reports, Dyer will use his message to criticise Donald Trump, whom he calls “an absolute melt”, as well as lampoon the state of British politics. “That shambles down in Westminster, what a palava that is,” he will say. “I mean where are our leaders? Where are they? There’s been more backstabbing than we have in Albert Square.”
Dyer has been in the spotlight in 2018 for a number of political outbursts, including repeatedly calling former prime minister David Cameron a “twat” live on-air.
Elsewhere in the message Dyer will address his friendship with his “hero”, the late playwright Harold Pinter.
Pinter was the “father figure I didn’t even know I needed” and taught him “that where I came from didn’t dictate where I went to.”
Pinter helped guide Dyer in stage productions in the early ’00s before the actor’s film career took off.
