"We feel it best to close this chapter on a high note."
In a statement, the streaming giant confirmed that the drama, starring Charlie Cox as the eponymous hero, will not return for a fourth season.
“”Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” Netflix said.
“We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
Deborah Ann Wolf, who plays Karen Page in the Netflix show, wrote on Twitter: “I’m so sad that we won’t be continuing this story. Mostly I’ll miss seeing the friends I’ve made everyday. Thank you to every person who contributed to this series over the years. And to
@erikoleson because of you we are going out on a high.”
Earlier this month, showrunner Erik Oleson seemingly confirmed that he had pitched a fourth season of the show to Netflix.
Although it now means that Jessica Jones and The Punisher remain the only two Marvel shows on Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter claims that those two shows will remain “on the streamer until they run their course”.
It’s also claimed that Marvel’s relationship with Netflix has become increasingly strained after terse negotiations over a third season of Luke Cage broke down, despite potential scripts being written.
Disney also recently announced plans to launch Disney+, their own streaming service to rival Netflix. The service will feature a selection of high-profile Marvel series, including the return of Tom Hiddleston as Loki, the god of mischief. The house of mouse also confirmed plans to remove all of its Marvel films from Netflix – which includes the likes of Black Panther, Guardians of The Galaxy and Doctor Strange.
