David Beckham to star in ‘Only Fools And Horses’

Footballer will join classic sitcom for Sport Relief sketch

David Beckham will star in a special episode of Only Fools And Horses, it has been revealed.

Former footballer and England captain Beckham will join Del Boy and Rodney Trotter in a sketch for Sport Relief, the BBC has confirmed, when he joins the wheeler-dealer brothers in a greasy spoon cafe in Peckham. Sport Relief is set to air on March 21.

The sketch will be the first the characters have been involved with since creator John Sullivan died in 2011. Only Fools And Horses was first shown in 1981 and ran as a regular series until 1991. After that, there were sporadic Christmas specials with the last of these being shown in 2003. In 2008, Sullivan said there would never be another series of the comedy, although the new script has been written by his son based on ideas his father had for the characters.

Jason previously revealed that he had received a script for the new sketch earlier this year, stating: “I’ve had a quick look at the treatment and it’s very good, but I’m saving the proper read-through until there are no distractions. It’s not the sort of thing you can muck about with.”

Last week, Only Fools And Horses star Roger Lloyd Pack died aged 69. The actor, who played the character of Trigger and also played Owen Newitt in The Vicar of Dibley, passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
