Michael Jackson's childhood friend has been competing on the Channel 5 show for the last two weeks
David Gest has chosen to leave the Celebrity Big Brother house after a fortnight-long stint on the Channel 5 reality show.
A Channel 5 spokesperson said in a statement to the press this morning (January 18): “Due to medical reasons, David Gest has decided to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House. His exit will appear in tonight’s show on Channel 5 at 9pm.”
The exact nature of Gest’s medical condition has yet to be revealed by Channel 5.
Concert producer and TV personality Gest – a childhood friend of the late Michael Jackson and Liza Minnelli’s ex-husband – entered the Celebrity Big Brother house on launch night on January 5. His fellow housemates include former EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook, TOWIE‘s Gemma Collins and David Bowie’s first wife Angie Bowie.
Last week Gest was inadvertently involved in a farcical misunderstanding when several housemates mistakenly assumed he had passed away in the Celebrity Big Brother house’s bedroom. When Angie Bowie told fellow housemate Tiffany Pollard that she was upset because “David’s dead,” Pollard presumed she was referring to Gest rather than Angie’s ex-husband David Bowie.
Gest, 62, previously appeared on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2006, finishing in fourth place.
