‘Doctor Who’ Christmas prequel released online – video

Watch a prelude to 'The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe' on NME.COM

A special online prequel has been released for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas episode.

The Doctor returns to BBC One in the special Narnia-inspired story The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardbrobe, on December 25.

The story takes place in World War II England, and sees the hero help a family of evacuees. But the short scene, which you can watch by clicking below, does not feature any of that, instead seeing The Doctor on board an apparently doomed spaceship, sending out a distress call to his friend Amy Pond.

However, it is understood that Karen Gillan‘s character will not appear in the festive special, having departed the TARDIS, although not the show itself, towards the end of this year’s series, leaving viewers to wonder what will become of the Timelord this Christmas.

The episode guest stars Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir, Alexander Armstrong and Claire Skinner. Showrunner Steven Moffat said of the episode: “Of all the Doctors, Matt Smith‘s is the one that was born for this time of year – so it’s the best news possible that he’s heading back down the chimney.”
