‘Doctor Who’ star Matt Smith: ‘I was nearly hit by a fireball’

Sci-fi actor reveals lucky escape during filming for Christmas TV special

Dr Who‘s Matt Smith has revealed that he was nearly hit by a fireball during filming for the sci-fi series’ Christmas special.

The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe, which was recently previewed during the BBC’s annual charity television telethon, will see the star travel back to England during the time of World War II and combat spacemen and an enchanted forest.

Smith told the Radio Times:

I had just three seconds to jump back from a giant fireball. It was only later that I realised I could have been seriously charred.

The actor also said fans can expect a different take on this year’s special which is due to air on BBC 1 on Christmas Day. Scroll down and click below to view a trailer of The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe.

“Whereas last year felt more like a Christmas romp, there’s a slow-burning, ethereal magic to this,” he explained.

“We’ve covered a whole forest in snow. The scale is vast and there’s just something wonderfully magical about it because it’s never that snowy in this country, except maybe in Scotland and on the telly.”
