'Fwends Reunited' disappointed many fans after airing on New Year's Day
The Inbetweeners’ Emily Atack has reportedly hinted that actor James Buckley was the reason why she didn’t appear on the show’s recent reunion special, claiming there had been some “snobbery” behind-the-scenes.
Fwends Reunited, a one-off special celebrating the tenth anniversary of the hit Channel 4 sitcom, aired early last month. Viewers reacted negatively to the programme, with many fans calling it “awful” and “awkward”. Buckley, who played Jay Cartwright, later discussed what he thought had gone wrong, claiming that the show had been “really rushed”.
Emily Atack – who portrayed Charlotte Hinchcliffe – has now reportedly hit out at Buckley when asked why she was cut from the special.
Speaking as a guest on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast earlier this week (February 4), Atack is said to have responded negatively to the mention of Buckley’s name.
A crowd member told The Sun: “[The host] then bought up James Buckley, and Emily hesitated and then shouted out ‘James Fuckley!’, which got a huge laugh from the audience.
“Emily then said that there was a ‘lot of snobbery’ [surrounding the reunion] and then said she didn’t want to say anything else.”
Speaking ahead of the show’s airing in December, Atack discussed her confusion about being cut from the show.
“I don’t really know what happened,” she told Capital FM. “I was booked to do it, very much looking forward to doing it, and then it was kind of the day before I was told I was no longer needed for it.
“It’s alright. These things do happen and I think they just decided to go a different route. Or it was to do with production timings.”
Despite the negativity surrounding the reunion special, some revelations were made on the night – including that Matt Smith was nearly cast in the role of Will and details of a nasty, near-death incident Buckley was part of while shooting a classic scene.
