First look at Alice Cooper in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

He's playing Herod in the live NBC show.

NBC has given us a first look at Alice Cooper in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar Live’, which is set to air on Easter Sunday (1 April).

The teaser trailer shows Cooper in his role as Herod, and also gives a glimpse of Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene and John Legend as Jesus Christ himself.

The special will be directed by BBC theatre director David Leveaux.

When Cooper was announced as Herod late last year, Chairman of NBC Entertainment Robert Greenblatt said in a statement: “Alice Cooper, whose theatricality is the stuff of legend, is the perfect rock star to play Herod in our live production.

“Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote a showstopping musical number for Herod, and we all look forward to the ‘King Of Shock Rock’ taking on the King of Judea.”

Last month Hollywood Vampires  the supergroup made up of Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry announced details of a UK arena tour in June.

Making their live debut in the UK, the band will be joined by fellow hard rock veterans The Darkness and The Damned.

Meanwhile, Cooper is set to be played by ‘The Mighty Boosh”s Noel Fielding in a new series of Sky Arts’ ‘Urban Myths’, which is due to air on 12 April.

Fielding will appear in the episode ‘The Dali and the Cooper’, which will tell the story of Cooper befriending artist Salvador Dali (played by David Suchet) in 1973 and attending a bizarre birthday party at Dali’s home.
