Fans get to see the Doctor's new companion for the first time
The first picture of new Doctor Who star Jenna-Louise Coleman has been released.
The shot, above, is the first time the actress has appeared alongside her co-star as the Doctor’s new companion. As well as showing Coleman is costume, it is the first glimpse of Smith’s revised costume, with him wearing a new grey tweed jacket and a waistcoat.
Smith told the BBC‘s Doctor Who site of shooting with Coleman: “It is going well. Jenna brings a really different energy to the show – one which I think is very interesting.”
Coleman will make her debut on screen in this year’s Christmas special. Little has been revealed about her character, although on-set rumours have reported her name as Clara. Showrunner Steven Moffat has said that, “Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy-meets-girl.” She recently completed her second read-through at the show’s new studios at Roath Lock in Cardiff.
Current companions Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will make their final appearance this autumn, in an encounter with the Weeping Angels, partially filmed in New York. Doctor Who returns to BBC One in the autumn, kicking off with a return for the Daleks. Watch the trailer below.
