"We’ll never have anything like this again"

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey has described how she experienced a “huge sense of loss” as the acclaimed TV show came to its conclusion.

The eighth and final instalment of HBO’s epic series is set to air in 2019. Ahead of its release, Lena Headey – who portrays Cersei Lannister – has spoken of how she felt during the production of the last-ever season.

“There was a great sense of grief,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a huge sense of loss, like we’ll never have anything like this again.”


Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) also discussed the atmosphere on the Season 8 set, saying that “every choice, every conversation, every attitude has this air of ‘This is it’”.

“Everything feels more intense,” she added. “I had a scene with someone and I turned to him and said, ‘Oh my God, I’m not going to do this ever again,’ and that brings tears to my eyes.”

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that George R.R Martin’s GoT prequel series will be called The Long Night. Naomi Watts was the first cast member to be secured for the project.

Watts is set to portray “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret” in the prequel, which is being written by X-Men: First Class‘s Jane Goldman and overseen by Martin.
