George Lucas has proved to be an unlikely influence on Game of Thrones, after visiting the show’s set during filming of the Season 8 premiere.
The Star Wars creator took a trip to Westeros and met creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss after revealing that he was a huge fan of the show.
“When we found out that George Lucas wanted to visit, we thought maybe it was a practical joke, and then we were really excited and also nervous because it’s George Lucas,” co-creator Benioff admits in a new behind-the-scenes video.

Thrones director David Nutter also admits that it was “so cool” to have Lucas involved, after he reportedly sat in the director’s chair and gave occasional tips to stars Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke.
“No direction for you, I don’t really care about you, I don’t care about what happens to you,” Lucas jokingly tells Harington in the new clip.
The reveal of Lucas’ involvement comes after Game of Thrones returned for its final season last Sunday.
Earlier this week, the Star Wars director risked the wrath of fans by revealing that Jar Jar Binks is still his favourite character from the franchise.
“Thank you for coming to the Celebration,” Lucas told fans in an introduction video shown at the Star Wars Celebration event in Chicago .
Reflecting on twenty years of the film, he said: “[The Phantom Menace] is one of my favourite movies and of course Jar Jar is my favourite character. Ahmed [Best], you did a fantastic job. It was very, very hard.”
