‘Gogglebox’ star leaves show to stand for Ukip in general election

Andrew Michael has been selected as Ukip candidate for Hastings and Rye

Brighton’s Michael family have left Gogglebox so that father Andrew can run as a Ukip candidate at next year’s general election.

Andrew Michael – husband to Carolyne and father to Louis and Alex – has been selected to stand as Ukip’s candidate for the East Sussex seat of Hastings and Rye, which is currently held by a Conservative MP.

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed the family’s exit from the show, saying: “Sadly any Gogglebox cast member who becomes a candidate for a political party will have to step down from their involvement in Gogglebox. It’s with great regret that the Michaels are no longer in the show. They have been excellent contributors to Gogglebox, and we are very grateful for all they have given to the show.”

Meanwhile, mother Carolyne Michael has taken to Twitter to express her regret about the family’s exit from the show.

Gogglebox‘s alcohol-loving posh couple came face to face with Ukip’s leader on Monday night (December 15) for a one-off Channel 4 special called Steph and Dom Meet Nigel Farage. The popular Channel 4 show has recently spawned a porn parody titled Gobble Cocks.
