Next year's awards ceremony will take place on January 7
Seth Meyers will host the 2018 Golden Globes, it has been confirmed.
Next year’s awards ceremony will take place on January 7, 2018, airing live on NBC.
It has now been announced that Meyers will host next year’s event. He follows on from this year’s host Jimmy Fallon. Other previous hosts include Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey/Amy Poehler.
“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is excited to have Seth Meyers host the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards,” HFPA president Meher Tatna says in a statement.
“With his natural comedic wit and innate ability to charm audiences, Seth will help us carry on the celebratory tradition of recognising the best in television and film at the Party of the Year.”
Meyers has presented Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC since 2014.
Variety has claimed that Ellen DeGeneres and Tiffany Haddish were also approached to host and that Fey and Poehler “resisted overtures” to return.
“Insiders say it’s increasingly becoming a hard sell to line up big stars for hosting gigs,” Variety say. “The commitment is significant and the returns for an established personality can be limited.”
Meanwhile, Jordan Peele has responded to his debut movie, Get Out, being placed in the comedy category for the 2018 Golden Globes. The film, which Peele wrote and directed, was categorised as a horror movie when was first released.
Referencing the themes of racism and their ties to life in 2017, Peele wrote: “Get Out is a documentary”. Peele also spoke about the film and the relationship between horror and comedy on CBS, saying: “They’re both about truth. If you are not accessing something that feels true, you’re not doing it right… you have to be very tuned in to the audience and their emotion.”
