Grumpy Cat became an internet phenomenon in 2012 when a picture of her pulling a memorably miserable facial expression was shared on Reddit. She has since appeared in a series of viral YouTube videos and formed the basis of countless memes and GIFs.

Responding to news of her forthcoming Madame Tussauds debut, Grumpy Cat “said” in a press release: “This is truly an honour… I hate it.” However, she will unveil the animatronic figure herself in San Francisco later this year, before her waxwork likeness travels around Madame Tussauds’ five other locations in the US.

Meanwhile, Madame Tussauds in San Francisco has recently been forced to lay on extra security to protect a waxwork figure of Nicki Minaj after numerous visitors attempted to pose for “inappropriate” pictures with the rapper’s likeness.
