HBO calls for blood donations from ‘Game of Thrones’ fans

It's all for a good cause

HBO is asking Game of Thrones fans to swear allegiance to the fantasy series – and to help ease blood shortages.

The TV network is running a ‘Bleed for the throne’ blood donation activation in partnership with the American Red Cross next month. The aid effort will feature six days of co-ordinated donations from fans in the US between March 7 and 12.

Participants will be given an exclusive ‘Bleed For The Throne’ T-shirt. Those who donate blood to the campaign before March 17 will also be in with a chance of attending the Game of Thrones season 8 world premiere in New York.

Campaignlive.co.uk reports that donors will walk in the steps of the characters as part of an immersive experience at SXSW festival in Texas(March 7-9) where the campaign kicks off.

But participants don’t have to be stateside. Fans from across the world will also be able to take part in additional partnerships with local blood donation organisations.

The 15 countries that will offer the service are: Norway, Sweden, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, and Croatia.

Additionally, people will also be invited to donate blood in 43 states and nine colleges and universities across the US from March 7-12.

The cause is being staged in partnership with Droga5 New York. Giant Spoon are devising the SXSW experience.

Game of Thrones returns for its final season on April 14. Here’s everything we know about the series so far.

A leaked cast list has hinted at some surprising character returns in the final season. According to Watchers on the Wall, both Kristofer Hivju and Richard Dormer are reprising their roles as Tormund and Beric Dondarrion who were last seen during the season 7 finale; it was not clear if the two had survived.

Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully) and Lino Facioli (Robyn Arryn) were also listed suggesting House Tully may also see a resurgence in the final season to support the Starks. The two were last seen in Season 6.
