The show's executive producer suggests that its new episodes will be even more provocative
Judd Apatow has revealed that the new season of Girls “ups the ante”.
Knocked Up director Apatow serves as an executive producer on the hit HBO comedy series alongside creator Lena Dunham. Season two is set to premiere on the US on January 12, 2013 and a trailer has just been unveiled. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.
Discussing the zeitgest-grabbing success of the show with Collider, Apatow said: “I’m so proud of Lena… it’s brutally honest, there’s pride in being different, and I knew people would really debate it and it would challenge people. It’s been thrilling to see how much it became a part of the culture.”
Continuing, Apatow hinted that the show’s new episodes will be even more provocative. He added: “And the second season is amazing. I really think the second season just ups the ante on the whole thing. It’s going to be a wild ride, seeing how people react to it.”
Alongside Dunham’s Hannah and her friends Jessa, Marnie and Shoshanna, season two will feature guest appearances from Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino and Insidious star Patrick Wilson. Chris O’Dowd is set to reprise his recurring role as Thomas-John, Jessa’s husband.
Meanwhile, season one of Girls has just been nominated for a pair of Golden Globe awards: best TV series – comedy or musical, and best performance by an actress in a TV series – comedy or musical for Dunham.
