‘Friends’ guest star Kathleen Turner says the cast were “such a clique” and ‘weren’t very welcoming’

‘Friends’ guest star Kathleen Turner has opened up about her experiences on the set of the iconic show, stating that the cast ‘weren’t very welcoming’.

The Hollywood icon played Chandler Bing’s dad Charles – also known as Helena Handbasket – and appeared in several of the show’s episodes throughout its ten seasons.

In a new interview with Vulture, Turner spoke of her first time on set. “I remember I was wearing this difficult sequinned gown – and my high heels were absolutely killing me. I found it odd that none of the actors thought to offer me a seat. Finally it was one of the older crew members that said: ‘Get Miss Turner a chair.’

“The Friends actors were such a clique – but I don’t think my experiences with them were unique,” she continued. “I think it was simply that they were such a tight little group that nobody from the outside mattered.”

Meanwhile, ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry is recovering in hospital after undergoing emergency surgery to repair a ruptured bowel.

A spokesperson for the star confirmed: “He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals.”

Although the specific details of Perry’s illness are yet to occur, a ruptured bowel occurs when a hole emerges all the way through the stomach, small intestine or large bowel. If not treated properly, the condition can lead to potentially fatal sepsis.

Perry has also voiced his scepticism about a Friends reunion – and last year admitted that he was even responsible for scrapping one storyline.

“There was a story line on ‘Friends’ where Chandler went to a male strip joint because he really liked the sandwiches,” said Perry. “And I called up and was like, ‘let’s not do this one’.”
