Kevin Hart speaks of his shock and “hurt” after friend arrested for sex tape extortion charges

His close friend allegedly attempted to blackmail Hart

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart has spoken of his shock and “hurt” after a close friend was arrested for extortion charges in relation to a sex tape.

Last year, Hart posted a candid social media message confessing that he made a “bad error in judgement” which recently led to an undisclosed individual making an extortion attempt against him.

Now, the County District Attorney’s Office has announced charges against his longtime friend Jonathan Jackson, 41 – who allegedly attempted to blackmail the star. It is alleged that he threatened to release a video he secretly recorded of Hart having sex with a woman in Las Vegas

“Mind blown,” Hart wrote on Twitter. “Hurt…at a lost for words and simply in complete disbelief at the moment. WOW

“Jackson is accused of trying to extort an undisclosed amount of money from Hart between Aug. 25 and Aug. 30, 2017,” reads a statement from the prosecutor’s office.  “Jackson allegedly had a videotape of the actor with a woman in Las Vegas and then is accused of trying to sell the recording to numerous celebrity news websites.”

Jackson was arrested Monday and is being held on $100,000 bail and could now face up to four years in county jail if convicted.

“I’m not perfect, I’m not gonna sit up here and claim that I am in any shape or form, and I made a bad error in judgement,” Hart said of the extortion last year. “In doing that, I know I’m going to hurt the people closest to me, who I’ve talked to and apologised to, them being my wife and my kids, and you know; it’s a shitty moment.”

Hart then explained that he had chosen to “‘fess up” rather than have someone attempt to make “financial gain from [his] mistakes. In this particular situation, that’s was what was attempted.”
