Lena Dunham will not be promoting the final series of ‘Girls’ due to chronic illness

Actress and writer takes to Instagram to reveal she's "going through a rough patch"

Lena Dunham has revealed she will not be promoting the final season of Girls due to health reasons.

The HBO show writer suffers from endometriosis, a chronic condition where the tissue which normally lines the uterus grows elsewhere in the body.

Taking to Instagram today (February 8), Dunham posted a snap to confirm that she will not be taking part in any promotional duties for the sixth season, revealing her co-stars will be on hand instead.

Addressing the post to her ‘Beloved Pals’, Dunham wrote: “I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won’t be out and about doing press for the new season.

Hey Beloved Pals, I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won’t be out and about doing press for the new season. As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women’s reproductive health. I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest. That’s a hard thing to do, but I’m trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet. I’m lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang. So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted. Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you. Back soon xxLena

The actress concluded her note with: “Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you. Back soon. xxLena.”

Dunham – who dates musician Jack Antonoff – previously hinted at her health problems last week, where she shared a clip of her boyfriend playing a tune on a mandolin as she lay in bed.

She accompanied the video with the caption: ‘When you don’t feel so hot and you’re stuck in bed so your boyfriend comes in and plays the mandolin in ya face.”

The final season of Girls returns to HBO on February 21.
