A first trailer for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ has been released following a San Diego Comic-Con panel at the weekend. Tom Hardy will star alongside Charlize Theron (Prometheus) and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class).
Returning to direct the re-imagining of his own 1979 creation, which starred Mel Gibson in the title role of the original trilogy, George Miller admitted he loves wrecking cars and called the Mad Max films “westerns on wheels.”
The filmmaker, who also made family features Babe: Pig In The City and Happy Feet, said his new film’s tone is “closer to Mad Max 2, simply because it happens over a short period of time. A few of days, and there’s an extended chase…”
Praising Hardy’s work on the film, Miller said: “It’s like watching a big, wild animal. You don’t know what they’re going to do next.”
An official synopis for the film reveals:
“Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Theron).
“They are escaping a Citadel tyrannised by the Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byne, Mad Max), from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.”
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where fuel is the only currency of value, the trailer opens with a voiceover from Hardy: “My name is Max. My world is fire. And blood.”
The fourth film in the franchise also stars Nathan Jones (Conan The Barbarian) as Rictus Erectus, Zoe Kravitz (Divergent) as Toast, Riley Keough (Magic Mike) as Capable and Rosie Huntington-Whitely (Transformers: Dark Of The Moon) as Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee making her screen debut as Fragile.
Mad Max: Fury Road will hit cinemas May 15, 2015.
