'Mariah Carey's Christmas Project' will air on Hallmark Channel this December
Mariah Carey is to direct and co-star in a Christmas-themed TV movie.
US cable network Hallmark Channel announced Mariah Carey’s Christmas Project yesterday (July 30), revealing that the scripted film will shoot this autumn and premiere in December. The singer also shared the news with her fans on Twitter, but has yet to give anything away about the film’s plot.
It was first reported that Carey was planning a Christmas movie back in April, with Rush Hour director Brett Ratner said to be on board as a producer. Ratner has directed several of Carey’s best-known music videos, including ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Obsessed’.
Carey’s 1994 album ‘Merry Christmas’ is the best-selling seasonal album of all-time and features the classic song ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, which has now sold over 14 million copies worldwide. She followed it up in 2010 with another seasonal album, ‘Merry Christmas II You’.
Though best known as a singer, Carey has made sporadic acting appearances over the years. Her 2001 film Glitter was a notorious box office bomb, but she has since earned positive reviews for her supporting roles in two films by director Lee Daniels, 2009’s Precious and 2013’s The Butler.
