The long-running comedy series ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ found a new home on Netflix earlier this year and has since been renewed for a second season.

The show left the air in 1999. Series creator Joel Hodgson launched a Kickstarter campaign in November 2015 to relaunch the series. The campaign raised over $6.3 million and broke the Kickstarter record for largest amount of money produced in one campaign.

The conceit of the show sees human host, Jonah Ray, trapped in the Satellite of Love forced to watch a never-ending cycle of bad B-movies.

Netflix has been unstoppable in terms of producing original shows and retelling already existing stories. Recently, Ellen Page was cast in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Gerard Way‘s ‘Umbrella Academy’ graphic novel series of the same name.

Meanwhile, Netflix recently revealed plans to release 80 original films in 2018. The entertainment company plans to spend $8 billion on original content over the next year.
