Netflix casts Lucy Davis and Michelle Gomez in ‘Sabrina’ spin-off

But who will they play?

Netflix has cast ‘Wonder Woman‘s Lucy Davis and ‘Doctor Who”s Michelle Gomez in their upcoming spin-off of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’.

Davis is widely known for her role in ‘The Office’, while ‘Green Wing’ fans will recognise Gomez as the highly inappropriate staff liason officer, Sue.

Davis will be playing Aunt Hilda, as reported by Deadline. Back in December, leaked character breakdowns revealed that Hilda is described as ‘the kinder of the two aunts’, while Zelda’s  ‘sternness and tough facade might be hiding a more…mothering soul’.

The original Hilda, Caroline Rhea, tweeted Lucy to give her seal of approval, saying that her daughter Ava is a big fan of hers.

Variety reports that Gomez has been cast as Mary Wardell, Sabrina’s favourite teacher and mentor at Baxter High, who turns into a ‘sultry, cunning manipulator’ when possessed by the Devil’s handmaiden, Madam Satan. She will be constantly trying to lure Sabrina down the Path of Night.

British newcomer Chance Perdomo will play Sabrina’s cousin from England, Ambrose Spellman, who will be introduced in the series.

It will be Perdomo’s first American screen credit, having previously appeared in the ‘Midsomer Murders’ and upcoming shorts ‘The Importance of Skin’ and ‘The Art of Trying’.

Ambrose is Sabrina’s mischievous partner in crime, and is forbidden from leaving the funeral home – where he lives with the Spellmans – after being placed under house arrest by the Witches Council.

Earlier this week it was announced that ‘Mad Men’ star Kiernan Shipka had been cast to play Sabrina Spellman in the show. The all important character of Salem was also revealed, with showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posting a picture of the cat who will play him.

Late last year it was announced that Netflix had won the rights to the show, ordering two seasons, comprising 10 episodes each.

Back in September, it was revealed that television network The CW and Warner Bros were developing a new one hour drama based around the character, for the 2018-19 season, as a Riverdale spin-off.
