Is Netflix considering a ‘Hey Arnold’ revival?

Is everyone's favourite football head making a comeback?

Netflix has reportedly considered the possibility of reviving Hey Arnold, fourteen years after the last episode of the cult Nickelodeon show aired.

Although the popular TV series returned in 2017 for a one-off TV movie, no new episodes have aired – and it doesn’t appear like Nickelodeon plans to revive the show.

Speaking to the Tunes/Toon podcast, composer Jim Lang explained how Nickelodeon was reluctant for a full series after it failed to strike a chord with younger viewers.

“Look at the numbers!”, Lang explained. “When the movie premiered, in your age group [referring to millennials] we totally killed.”

He added: “With the Nickelodeon audience, not so great. So they decided, ‘Nah we’re not gonna do it.'”

But there could still be a future on streaming services.

“Netflix, Amazon, Apple were all people that they were going to go out to with the idea of trying to make a season six of Hey Arnold!” he explained.

“We haven’t heard anything yet but we’ve got our fingers crossed.”

Hey Arnold! ran on Nickelodeon for five consistently popular seasons between 1994 and 2004, before eventually returning with the feature-length film, Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie, in 2017.

In the film, main characters Arnold and best friend Gerald are voiced by new and younger performers. Arnold will be voiced by Mason Vale Cotton and Gerald will be voiced by Benjamin Flores Jr.
