Netflix orders second season of the Wachowskis’ ‘Sense8’

Season one launched on the streaming service on June 5

Netflix has renewed sci-fi drama Sense8 for a second season.

The streaming service broke the news with a special video message featuring the show’s lead cast members on Saturday, August 8 – the date on which the show’s eight main characters, who are known as “sensates”, all celebrate their birthdays.

Created by Andy and Lana Wachowski, the brother-sister duo behind The Matrix, Sense8 follows eight strangers from different parts of the world who suddenly become mentally and emotionally linked. These eight so-called “sensates” are played by Brian J Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen and Max Riemelt.

Season one, which launched in full on June 5, comprised 12 episodes and also featured Naveen Andrews, Freema Agyeman and Daryl Hannah in regular roles. Netflix has yet to confirm how many episodes season two will be or when it will launch.

Netflix has also recently commissioned a third season of Bojack Horseman and second season of Grace & Frankie. Its latest original series, eight-part comedy Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp, launched on July 31.
