Eagerly-anticipated series about the early years of the legendary explorer launches on December 12
Netflix has unveiled a full-length trailer for its latest original series, historical drama Marco Polo.
Marco Polo centres on the early years of the legendary 13th century explorer, when he was a member of the court of Mongol emperor Kublai Khan. Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy will star in the title role, with Benedict Wong (Prometheus, Kick-Ass 2 as the emperor.
The large ensemble cast also includes Joan Chen (The Last Emperor) and Claudia Kim (soon to be seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron). The series has been created and written by screenwriter John Fusco, whose previous credits include Young Guns, Crossroads starring Britney Spears and DreamWorks’ 2002 computer-animated hit Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron.
The ten-episode first season of Marco Polo, produced at a cost of $90 million (£57 million), will launch in full on Netflix on December 12.
