Netflix is teasing a new, pricier ‘Ultra’ service

It will let users watch on multiple screens

Netflix has revealed that it’s testing out a new ‘Ultra’ tier that would allow users to watch their content on multiple screens.

Currently, the streaming giant offers three tiers. The cheapest is £5.99 and allows subscribers to watch on one device at a time, in standard definition.

The £7.99 per month option offers the choice to watch in HD, plus you can watch on two devices at a time. For £9.99 a month, you can watch content in Ultra HD where available, on four screens at a time.

According to Italian blog Tutto Android, the new Netflix ‘Ultra’ tier would allow four devices to receive Ultra HD video and audio streaming simultaneously.

It’s being tested in two versions, with one offering those four Ultra HD streams and the second allowing Premium and Ultra customers to have access to four concurrent Ultra HD streams but only the Ultra customers would have access to high dynamic range (HDR) content. HDR offers vibrant colour reproduction and higher contrast on the movies and shows.

The existing, £9.99 plan would reportedly drop from four to two UHD streams.

Smita Saran, a Netflix spokeswoman told CNET: “We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time. In this case, we are testing slightly different price points and features to better understand how consumers value Netflix.”

Saran did add that this is a test and that the option may not be offered in the future.

Last month (June 12), the streaming site was hit by unexpected issues across the globe, causing users to experience outage and error messages.

Subscribers were not happy, proceeding in a slew of online complaints. Netflix acknowledged the problem and confirmed that it was “investigating the issue”.

“We are aware of members having trouble streaming on all devices. We are investigating the issue and appreciate your patience”, Netflix responded on Twitter.
