New Marvel TV series ‘Legion’ casts Dan Stevens and Aubrey Plaza

Stevens will play David Haller, the son of Professor X from 'X-Men'

Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens and Parks And Recreation‘s Aubrey Plaza have been cast in Legion, a new Marvel TV series being made by FX.

Stevens will star as David Haller, who is the son of X-Men‘s Professor X. FX’s character description teases: “Diagnosed as schizophrenic at a young age, David is a haunted man, trying to find his way back to sanity, but he’s getting tired and is about to give up when he meets the girl of his dreams.”

Plaza will play David’s friend Lenny, a longtime abuser of drugs and alcohol who apparently “knows that any day now her life is gonna turn around, which gives Lenny the likeable energy of the impossible optimist despite her rough demeanour.”

Meanwhile, Fargo actress Jean Smart will play Melanie, a “nurturing, demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods”.

They join another Fargo cast member, Rachel Keller, who has already cast as the show’s female lead Syd. Her character description teases: “Self-sufficient and street smart, Syd uses her sharp and prickly demeanour to protect her soft core, because even though it makes her a sucker and puts her at risk, she still believes in happily ever after.”

Noah Hawley, creator of the Fargo TV series, is steering Legion with three key members of the X-Men film team – Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and Bryan Singer – on board as executive producers. FX will make a pilot episode next month (March) and then decide whether to order a full series.
