New poll reveals the UK’s favourite ‘Friends’ character

Sadly, fans weren't given the option to vote for Janice or Gunther

A new poll by Comedy Central, the channel which has shown re-runs of Friends since 2011, has revealed the UK’s favourite character from the enduringly popular sitcom.

David Schwimmer’s Ross Geller came top of Comedy Central’s poll with an impressive 25.6% of the vote, followed closely by Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing in second place with 25.4%.

Matt LeBlanc’s Joey Tribbiani came third to complete an all-male top three, followed by Lisa Kudrow’s Phoebe Buffay in fourth, Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel Green in fifth and Courteney Cox’s Monica Geller in sixth.

Fans were asked to cast their votes on Twitter using hashtags such as #VoteRoss and #VotePhoebe. Sadly, they weren’t given the option to vote for Janice, Gunther or the show’s mythical “Smelly Cat”.

Meanwhile, supermodel Elle Macpherson has recently admitted she regrets appearing on Friends because of the show’s continued popularity on Comedy Central in the UK and Netflix in the US.

Macpherson played Janine Lacroix, the dancer room-mate of Matt LeBlanc‘s Joey Tribbiani, for five episodes in season six of the show in 1999. She told Australian magazine TV Week: “If I’d known how important it was in the US, or how long it would be shown on TV, I may not have chosen to do it. It was a lot of pressure, if you look at in the way that it’ll be around for 20 or 30 years.”
