Nickelodeon could be launching a new channel dedicated to its classic ’90s cartoons

'Rugrats' and 'The Ren & Stimpy Show' feature in a trailer for the possible new channel

Nickelodeon seems to be launching a new channel called The Splat dedicated to its biggest ’90s cartoons.

Though there has been no formal announcement yet, The Splat is listed as a “TV network” on its Facebook page and a trailer uploaded to The Splat’s YouTube features a montage of clips from classic ’90s Nickelodeon cartoons such as Rugrats, Hey Arnold! and The Ren & Stimpy Show.

On Twitter, The Splat has been tweeting using the hashtag #TheSplatIsComing since Saturday (September 12), prompting speculation that it could be either a new ’90s-themed channel or a block of ’90s-themed programming on the main Nickelodeon network.

The Splat’s multitude of hints on social media follows news earlier this month that Nickelodeon is considering reviving classic shows from its past. The network’s president of context and development, Russell Hicks, said on September 2: “We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way.”
