Elizabeth Moss and Gwendoline Christie also set to star in BBC show
After weeks of speculation, the BBC has confirmed that Nicole Kidman will appear in the second season of crime drama Top Of The Lake.
The actress arrived in Sydney last week to begin filming together with the series star Elisabeth Moss.
Jane Campion will also return to direct the new season, which is titled Top Of The Lake: China Girl. According to Deadline, the story picks up four years after the events of the first season in which Moss’ Detective Robin Griffin investigated the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl.
Griffin’s latest case sees her trying to establish the identify of a person that was found dead on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
Brian Walsh, chief of Australian television network Foxtel, told The Daily Telegraph it had taken a year to secure Kidman who finally signed on last week. “I am very excited to be coming home to work with darling friend Jane Campion, whose work I respect and admire,” Kidman told the paper. “I’m also so happy to be joining the incredible Elisabeth Moss.”
Kidman joins Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie in the second instalment of the award-winning crime thriller. Also set to star are David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures) and Ewen Leslie (The Daughter).
Moss won a Golden Globe for her performance in the first season of Top Of The Lake, which aired in 2014.
