Peep Show stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb reunite for new show

The pair have come together for Channel 4 sitcom 'Back'

Peep Show stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb have reunited for a new Channel 4 show. Back follows the story of a dysfunctional family running a local pub.

Written by Veep and In The Loop‘s Simon Blackwell, Mitchell plays Stephen, a man who inherits the family business after the death of his father. His chance to prove himself is cut short however, when his charming former foster brother Andrew – played by Webb – turns up.

Stephen’s mother Ellen is played by Spaced and I’m Alan Partridge star Julia Deakin with Louise Brealey playing Stephen’s sister Cass. The show is also directed by The Inbetweeners Movie director Ben Palmer and produced by Kate Crowther, who has worked on Raised By Wolves.

Speaking to the Guardian, head of comedy at Channel 4 Phil Clarks said: “To have Mitchell and Webb and Simon Blackwell working together is a very exciting prospect.

“It’s a unique configuration of some seriously big comedy minds. Simon has written a very funny and clever script with a strong emotional heart that takes Robert Webb and David Mitchell in a new and genuinely intriguing direction.”

Writer Blackwell added that it’s been a “pleasure and a privilege to write for David and Robert again”. He also said it was exciting to be surrounded by such a “superb” cast, director and production team.

Mitchell and Webb first met at university in 1993 in the Cambridge Footlights society and have worked together on various comedy projects ever since, most notably Peep Show, which ended last year after nine series and 12 years.
