Pink Floyd star’s children to appear on ‘Downton Abbey’

Son and daughter of guitarist Dave Gilmour have landed roles as extras on ITV1's hit period drama

The children of Pink Floyd star Dave Gilmour are set to appear in the new series of Downton Abbey.

The guitarist’s youngest two children, 16-year-old son Gabriel and 11-year-old daughter Romany, have apparently landed roles as extras on ITV1’s hit period drama.

Gilmour and his novelist wife Polly Samson were snapped watching the children film their scenes on set in Bampton, Oxfordshire on Tuesday (August 5), the Evening Standard reports. Gabriel was reportedly filmed pushing along a 1920s bicycle while being chased by a group of three children including his sister Romany.

The new series of Downton Abbey will air on ITV1 this autumn, though the show’s return date has yet to be confirmed. New additions to the cast include Sideways actor Paul Giamatti, who’ll play Harold, the “maverick playboy brother” of Elizabeth McGovern’s character Cora. Shirley MacLaine, who guested on the hit costume drama last year (2012), will reprise her role as Martha, Harold and Cora’s mother.

McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery and of course Maggie Smith will all be back as members of the aristocratic Grantham family. Created and written by Julian Fellowes (pictured above right with Bonneville and McGovern), Downton Abbey premiered on ITV1 in 2010 and has gone on to become a major international smash. Over 120 million viewers worldwide are now estimated to have watched the series.
