A ‘Riverdale’ spin-off of ‘Sabrina’ is coming to Netflix

The show will be based on Archie comic 'The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina'

Netflix have ordered a two-season run of Riverdale‘s Sabrina spin-off.

US TV network The CW was developing a reboot as it looks to expand its Archie Comics projects, but the streaming service have now won the rights to the as-yet-untitled Sabrina-featuring show.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Netflix have ordered two series made up of 10 episodes each.

The new series will be based on a comic in the Archie series

The series will be based on comic The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, which reimagines the origin of Sabrina The Teenage Witch as something altogether darker than the Melissa Joan Hart-starring show of the ’90s.

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has written the script for the episodes and will also take on the role of director.

At present, there is no release date for the spin-off, or any details on how the completed episodes will be rolled out. It is reported that filming for both series will take place next year in two blocks running from February to June and June to October.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Chvrches would appear in a new issue in the Archie Comics series.

The band appear in ‘The Archies #2’, which was made available last month. The trio give advice to Riverdale’s up-and-coming band The Archies, serving as their mentors. They will also have an appearance in this month’s issue.
