Netflix has acquired the exclusive UK rights to the 10-episode slasher series
Netflix has acquired the exclusive UK rights to MTV’s Scream TV series, and the 10-episode first season is available to stream in full now.
Based on the slasher film franchise created by Kevin Williamson and the late Wes Craven, MTV’s Scream TV series premiered in the US in June. Though reviews from TV critics were decidedly mixed, it performed well for the network and MTV has since ordered a second season to premiere in 2016.
Before he passed away in August, Craven served as one of the executive producers on the TV series, which introduces a new cast of teenage characters played by up-and-coming actors Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Amadeus Serafini, John Karna, Connor Weil, Carlson Young and Dale Heidenreich.
Bob Weinstein, who executive produced the Scream movies, is also an executive producer on the TV series, though Kevin Williamson has had no involvement in the show’s development.
Before Scream premiered in June, MTV shared the first eight minutes of episode one online – watch the episode’s beginning, a modern-day update of the of the iconic Drew Barrymore-led opening sequence from the original 1996 Scream film, here.
