Speculation has been rife over who will play the lead role in the second season of the hit show with season one leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both not returning.

To The Best Of Our Knowledge podcast that casting will begin shortly and that, as yet, nobody has been offered a part in the series.

“In True Detective, the world itself is the crime. The world itself is poison; there’s something ruinous at work here. The poison at the root of the world is humanity,” he says.

Moving on to the location of season two, he adds: “Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser-known venues of California. And we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did in season one.”

Earlier this year it was reported that Jessica Chastain was offered a part in the show. That rumour was subsequently denied. The only other actor linked to season two of True Detective is Brad Pitt.
