‘Serial’ podcast release Season One update episodes as Adnan Syed’s hearing begins

A hearing has opened to consider a retrial in the murder case

Cult podcast Serial has announced that it will release three new episodes as an update to Season One, which revolved around the case of Adnan Syed, a Baltimore man convicted of murder in 2000.

Syed’s ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee was found dead in 1999, with Syed, 19 at the time, later found guilty of her murder. The first season of the Serial podcast looked at alleged inconsistencies in the case.

Following the show’s broadcast, new evidence came to light and a three-day hearing has now started to determine whether there should be a retrial.

Presenter Sarah Koenig released a statement announcing that three new episodes will be released, reporting from each day of the court proceedings.

“This week I’m going to do something I haven’t done before, which is duck back into Adnan Syed’s case for a few days, to report on a court proceeding that’s happening in Baltimore,” Koenig said.

“For the next few days, producer Dana Chivvis and I will discuss what happens at the hearing, day by day.”

The episode for day one is currently streaming online.

Season Two of the podcast launched in December. It deals with the case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, an American soldier who was held for five years by the Taliban, and arrested for desertion on his recapture.
