‘Skins’ creator suggests show could make return

Brian Elsley hints E4 teen drama could return as online series

Skins creator Brian Elsley has suggested that the teen drama could make a return online.

The E4 show ended in 2013 after series, comprising three different generations of characters. Speaking to Radio Times, Elsley revealed he is in talks with different people about reviving the show.

“Discussions are under way with a number of parties,” Elsley said. “Any re-imagining of Skins would be from the ground up, a total re-imagining of the whole thing. Today’s youth are very different from what they were when Skins started.”

Elsley also said that he does not expect Skins to return in a traditional TV format. “The thing about the modern world now is that the future is neither film nor television series, not platform, nor not platforms. It is about collaboration, co-production and the internet. Somehow that equation has got to be worked out and I think it will be worked out quite quickly. Whether it will be worked out in time for Skins I don’t know.”

Following its start in 2007, Skins helped launch the careers of actors including Dev Patel, Joe Dempsie, Nicholas Hoult, Jack O’Connell and Kaya Scodelario.
